Williams Kherkher - Ortho Evra Lawyer

If you have used the Ortho Evra birth control patch, you may need to speak to an Ortho Evra lawyer. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has discovered some very serious cases of women that have been using this birth control patch to replace the pill or other forms of contraceptives. If you have suffered some medical issue as a result of using the patch, you do have legal rights and talking to an Ortho Evra lawyer will help educate you on what they are.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Warnings

It is a concern when the news starts to report on cases of consumers who that have suffered serious injuries using the Ortho Evra birth control patch or any other product that you currently use. It is even more alarming when the FDA releases statements that confirm these warnings. The FDA has released its own reports warning consumers of the harm of the Ortho Evra patch. In fact, the FDA finally approved some warning verbiage that they required the manufacturer, Ortho McNeil, a Johnson and Johnson subsidiary, to place on the patch's box. The following is some of the text that is now required, since the link between serious injuries, including death and this birth control patch is in question.

Updates in Package Labeling

Labeling of the Ortho Evra contraceptive will include the following:
  • There is a warning that the product will increase estrogen levels higher than most birth control pills.
  • The patch releases ethinyl estradiol - which is an estrogen hormone - and norelgestromin - which is a progestin hormone through the skin and then directly into the bloodstream.
  • Women will be advised to speak with a doctor to decide if it is the best form of birth control for them.
  • Women who use Ortho Evra are exposed to about 60 percent more total estrogen to their blood then if they were using the typical birth control pill.
  • Women who smoke using the Ortho Evra patch increase their risk of serious cardiovascular side effects.
The FDA did not approve the warning label to be put onto the Ortho Evra box until September 2006. However, the birth control patch went on sale in 2002. Millions of young women purchased the patch and several have now suffered some serious injury including blood clots and death. If you have suffered from using this birth control patch, do not wait.
